The excellence of an artistic photograph is bound not only to visual qualities but also to personal significance. When an image really means something to the viewer, it becomes more than just an attractive picture hanging on a wall. I previously lived in Northeast Ohio, and I sought to instill personal meaning in my fine art photography by publishing photographs taken only in Northeast Ohio and neighboring regions. I look forward to building a new portfolio of fine art images taken in eastern Kentucky.

Local fine art photography can sometimes be quite challenging—in the eastern United States, we don't have the grand landscapes of the mountainous American West, or the awe-inspiring medieval cathedrals of Europe, or the stunning geological formations of Iceland. But by seeking to produce photographic fine art in my local area, I am advocating and living out what I believe to be an essential element of human happiness: the ability to find beauty, joy, drama, and meaning amidst the ordinary experiences of daily life.
